[PW] ?what to send to soldiers

My nephew just returned from Iraq a few weeks ago and he liked
vacuum-packed tuna, salmon and chicken - the ones that come in the flat
pouches. He also asked for socks, socks and more socks, as well as Gold
Bond Medicated Powder. At some point in his deployment he had access to
a microwave so he could nuke the pop-top cans of Spaghetti-O's, Ravioli,
etc. and the Hormel non-refrigerated dinners (beef stew, pot roast,
etc.) He said if he ever saw another MRE he was going to be really ill.
In Iraq there were lots of little kids running around asking for candy
so I kept sending him Tootsie Roll Midgies. He also wanted DVDs and
Nintendo games.

A word of advice ... when mailing put everything in zip lock bags. That
way if anything melts or bursts it doesn't ruin everything in the box,
plus they can use those bags for personal storage so their stuff doesn't
get all dusty and dirty.

The post office just last month introduced a military flat-rate box. I
think it's $10.95. The good thing about flat-rate boxes is that you can
stuff in as much as you can it's still the same price to mail.

Mary,

I've found they appreciate those premoistened wipes, especially if they
don't have many opportunities for a shower. Visine, lip balm, sunscreen,
and foot powder are also good choices.

Homemade brownies are also well-received. You can find desert-safe
recipes here: http://www.cooksrecipes.com/tips/desert_safe_recipes.html.

One of our former pages is in Afghanistan and we would like to collect
items for packages to send to him and his unit. I know there are some
things we can't send. Does anyone have a list of what to send?
