[PW] ? Turpentine clearing

Turpentine is derived from the gum of pine trees. A few webpages I
located describe the processes by which the gum is collected and
distilled:

http://www.hchsonline.org/places/turpentine.html
http://www.georgiaencyclopedia.org/nge/Article.jsp?id=h-3549
http://www.forestry.state.al.us/publication/TF_publications/tffall99/turpentining-One_of_the_south's_oldest_forest_industries.pdf

Although I didn't see any references specifically to a "turpentine
clearing", several of the methods described seem likely to produce
clearings in the forest, either because they destroy the trees from
which the gum is collected or because they involve building fires,
kilns, distilling vats, etc., which would of course require at least a
small area of cleared ground.
