The following old newspaper article will better explain exactly how the
people of the past considered "somatic exhaustion" in relation to death
and why it might be listed as a cause of death.

6 April 1889
 Decatur Daily Republican
 Decatur, Illinois

Somatic death may be briefly described as the failure of the main organs
of the body, the brain, heart and lungs, to perform their functions, while
cellular death is where the cells or tissues of the body die Both may
occur at the same time, but the writer urges, the former may take place
without the latter, and often does, and in all such cases there is a
chance of resuscitating the dead person until cellular death supervenes.

In further research on the odd career and mysterious background of
balloonist Leo Stevens, I received a recent death record from the Erie St cemetery
in Cleveland.

In a related grave plot, the cause of death is listed as "Somaria
Exhaustion."

That cemetery is closed today, so I thought I would just ask if anyone has
ever seen this kind of "misprint" before? What sounds like, etc.? If I
get a good answer from them tmw, will relay of course... I don't have the
original handwriting to check - I think it was computer generated..
