I went through the April 1947 issue page by page and didn't find it. I
also checked the table of contents data for all 1947 issues: no luck.

So I googled to see what the reference you'd found specifically said,
and found that it was actually in the May 1947 issue:

The Project Gutenberg eBook of U.S. Copyright Renewals, 1974 July ...
Wendy-Endy and the Googenfoibles. By Carl Sandburg. (In '47: magazine of
the year, May 1947) © 2Apr47; B69939. Lilian Steichen Sandburg (W);

with that, I went through the May issue page by page, and found the
Sandburg piece on page 53 of the May 1947 issue of MAGAZINE OF THE YEAR.
It did not show on the contents page because it was a contribution to
an odds and ends column of short pieces, "Yarns," with contributions
by a number of authors/readers.

It's not exactly a poem; maybe a sort of prose poem, told in the
same sort of language Sandburg uses in ROOTABAGA TALES etc.

I'll make a copy and can send it to the address of the library you
listed on your question; is there any specific person to whom I
should mark it for attention?
