I just looked up suicide in the Oxford Dictionary of Thematic Quotations, 
edited by Susan Ratcliffe, OUP, 2000

I found

"Nor at all can tell
Whether I mean this day to end myself
Or lend an ear to Plato where he says
That men like soldiers may not quit the post
Allotted by the gods.

Now we just have to find the original Plato quotation
