This is often mistaken for scripture when in fact it is not. As you've seen
it comes from a Cowper hymn. The principles/truths come from scripture but
you will not find it worded that way. It's like "cleanliness is next to
godliness" - it's also NOT a quote from the bible.

Subject: [PW] Is this a bible quotation?

"The Lord works in mysterious ways"

Where does this come from? Is it a biblical reference, or just an old
adage by "anonymous"?

I know there's a poem/hymn by Wiliam Cowper containing the line, "God
moves in a mysterious way / His wonders to perform" -- is it derived
from a biblical source?

I need the exact wording and source to verify a quote used in a
novel. I don't own a Bible so can't look it up. Google searching
gives such a huge range of responses I'm not sure how to narrow it down.

Any help appreciated.
