The IBM Selectrics were tanks, and are still in demand. I started 
typing in the Year of the Flood, and if I were to purchase a 
typewriter today, that's what I'd get.

Conversely, The Vermont Country Store sells a Smith-Corona electric 
for less than $250, so that might be your quickest and simplest solution.
