SIOUX CO. SCHOOL NOTES
By Chas. H. Tye, County Supt.

If you study these pages carefully
you will note that the aim of the first
three grades is to learn to read,
both orally and silently. After the
third grade, of course, the emphasis
should be laid on silent reading. Reading
to learn, or work type reading is
emphasized in all grades' after the
third.

I can send you a copy of the newspaper clipping if you want it. Just let me know.

Does anyone know the source and the original quote of this, which may
be a paraphrase?

"In the first three grades you learn to read, but from the fourth
grade on you read to learn."

Is there an original quote? Or did this spring up out of the ground
full-formed?

Thanks.
