Another 19th century spelling is despatch for dispatch. One online
dictionary says that this is now chiefly British.

I proof so many old American and British texts that I am no longer
sure what is AmEng, what is BrEng, what is new and what is old. I use
the dictionary more than I did when I started proofing.
