I answered Peter directly on this one, with the same kind of information
we all gave. I just wanted to point out another phenomena of small town
numbering. In Peckville, PA where this library is, we have 1/2 or rear
addresses. It is not unusual to register a patron who lives on 343 1/2
Pleasant Avenue or 343 Rear Pleasant Avenue, because there are alleys
behind the houses, originally for deliveries, garages (perhaps stables)
and garbage pick up. Some of these garages were converted to apartments
or torn down and houses built on the land. In Jessup, the town next to
Peckville, people had "mother-in-law" houses built in the rear of their
properties, similar to Dower Houses in England only on a much less grand
scale!
