Hi Freyja. I have one not-very-useful bit of info for you, but one question
first: the US telephone directory turns up

exactly ONE  Duffart family - in Massachusetts. Is that who you're doing the
research for?

 

This is the modern incarnation of the French Academy of Fine arts. The
english on the site is patchy, but there

are various email addresses under contacts.  I came across a heading for
research, but can't seem to find it 

again! They may have some information on past students.

Duffart doesn't seem to be all that common a name - there don't seem to be
any in the French phone book,even

around Paris. If you look on ancestry.com, there are a couple clusters of
them in the us - one in NH, one in Pennsylvania,

and a couple 20th century strays in California. As it's possible he's still
alive, telephoning available Duffarts

may turn something up.
