Where does this come from? Is it a biblical reference, or just an old 
adage by "anonymous"?

I know there's a poem/hymn by Wiliam Cowper containing the line, "God 
moves in a mysterious way / His wonders to perform" -- is it derived 
from a biblical source?

I need the exact wording and source to verify a quote used in a 
novel. I don't own a Bible so can't look it up. Google searching 
gives such a huge range of responses I'm not sure how to narrow it down.

Any help appreciated.
