First, thank you to everyone who sent suggestions. The Children's Librarian
is almost overwhelmed with choices, and has decided to use these suggestions
to extend the book discussion throughout the summer instead of ending the
program when the school year ends. Her biggest problem now is choosing which
one first. The kids read one book each month.

Oh, by the way, she did not choose the first books the kids read. She
primarily does programs for younger children, and when she wanted to expand
the age group wasn't sure what to choose so asked the librarian at the local
school to pick for her. The result is why she asked me to check my sources
for books that the kids would enjoy reading.

Starred books were recommended more than once.
