[PW] Art in the White House

I've been told that Nadine Merrill Persson, born in 1942, was the first 
female artist to have paintings in the White House.  I need to check the 
validity of this statement.  I've been e-mailing queries to art museum 
libraries, including Library of Congress and (when I can get contact 
information) curators and White House historians.

Does anybody reading this have other suggestions about how I could confirm 
(or  disprove) this statement?
