Since the term "bunk," within the meaning of the phrase "morality is bunk,"
only goes back to 1900, it is unlikely you would find the same phrase in the
mid-19th century. Before it was shortened, "bunkum" was the term used and I
am only able to find the phrase "moral bunkum" from back then, but not
'bunk."

Try looking under buncombe (a variation of bunkum), from a remark made
around 1820 by Felix Walker, US Congressman, according to my AHD.
