[PW] Reinhold Niebuhr quote

Other sources (i.e. Martin Marty's "Modern American Religion, vol 3: 1941-1960, p.348 available in GoogleBooks http://qurl.com/gcf4v )suggest that the actual quote comes from Mary McCarthy. Niebuhr's was somewhat different.

How about this for a source:

"Religious people who take pride in Niebuhr's commitment to what he called "Christian Realism" may prefer to forget his words, "Religion is a good thing for honest people but a bad thing for dishonest people... and the church has not been impressive because many of its leaders rationalize." "

>From p.387 of :
Moral Reasoning in American Thought on War and Peace
Kenneth W. Thompson
The Review of Politics, Vol. 39, No. 3. (Jul., 1977), pp. 386-399
(JSTOR)

The citation for the quote given is to:

"Niebuhr, Sermon at Union Seminary, New York, May 10, 1960"

Which seems more specific than the "report" in the Hedges book.
