Searched the phrase "barefoot and pregnant" on
google books, limited to date range 1800-1920,
and found a citation from the 1919 proceedings of
the annual business meeting of the American
Railway Association:

"The mountaineers down in North Carolina used to
say that to keep a woman faithful
you should keep her barefoot and pregnant. I
would like to paraphrase that..."
