I'd look for the source in translations of, or journalistic 
comments on, pre-World War II Nazi propaganda.  The German 
phrase "Kinder, Kuche, Kirche" was a mantra for many in that 
era, and I suspect our "barefoot and pregnant," if it didn't 
evolve from earlier, home-grown philosophy, might have been 
derived from that.
