OK, you've got me interested.   I did some digging and Duard (wealthy 
guardian) is a nickname for Eduard.  Grey wrote or self published his first 
book, Betty Zane in 1903 and I doubt it was that popular (except in 
Zanesville) until after some of his later books. I'm familiar with the 
story of Betty Zane, growing up in Ohio, Zanesville to be exact.

So I would guess (not an expert opinion) that it's not Zane Grey.
