Negative evidence: none of the hits on keyword  triplets  on the site
of Loganberry Books (a children's book identification board/database)
match the plot description.

If PW doesn't solve it and you want to pursue, you might post the
query to Loganberry; they charge $2 to post but have a good success
rate.
