I figured my absolutist pronouncements would generate some responses. I
will try not to let this thread get out of hand.

Of course some people, some time, somewhere, have marched with double
reeds, and with vertical tubas. It's just that most people think it's a
very bad idea. Google <"Marching band" bassoon> to read some comments
on the double reed issue, for example. If you think marching with tubas
is a good idea, go get one (make sure it's a full-size tuba, the kind
Sousaphones are intended to mimic), march up and down the football field
a few times, and then find a good chiropractor. You could march with
violins, too (Dennis says he marched with a cello), but watch out when
the thunderstorm rolls in. Heck, you could march with a concert grand
piano if you got a couple of horses to pull it.

Anyway, thanks again for the interest and comments. In future I will
make my best efforts to be less bombastic, but being who I am, I can
make no promises in that department.
