The Belleville News Democrat still exists:

http://www.bnd.com/

If they are unwilling/unable to help you, you might also try the Calhoun
County Illinois board at Rootsweb.com

http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.northam.usa.states.illinois.counti
es.calhoun/mb.ashx

http://tinyurl.com/3j3z2j

and ask if someone there can help you or put you in contact with a local
library

Or try the Illinois Newspaper Project to see which libraries hold the
newspaper:

Hope this helps,

<<Allen,

Any idea what newspaper it was?

Hi Harry,

yes indeed, it was called the 'Belleville News Democrat,' Jan 2,
1923, p.
1.
The headline of the requested article was: "Aviation Dinner at Hotel
Chase."

I think the text must be available thru 'America's Historical
Newspapers,' but I don't have that at home.

Allen
