The film was shown at the Tribec Film Festival earlier this year.  If it 
isn't available on tape or DVD perhaps the professor can arrange a showing 
of the film on her campus.   The site for the film festival contains this 
information about who made the film available for showing:

"Attica provided courtesy of The New York Public Library, Donnell Media 
Center. Preservation of this film was made possible by a grant from the 
Women's Film Preservation Fund of New York Women In Film & Television. This 
fund is supported in part by General Motors Corporation. Film preserved by 
Colorlab Corp."

Perhaps one of these institutions can provide a copy for purchase on tape 
or DVD.
