As is my lack thereof to be abhorred..

Alack-a-day-dee.

Did I hear something?

Or " 'twas nothing; 'twas the cat "?

Luckily, this is only `a little list' so I'm sure it will be missed.

I think Peter is trying to split hairs that haven't been plucked. The issue
was not the song "I Have a Song to Sing, O", but the title of the operetta
in which it appears.

It is true that during the development of "The Yeomen of the Guard" Sullivan
came to Gilbert, puzzled by the odd meter of the lyrics to the "Song to
Sing, O" number, and asked him to hum what he had in mind. Gilbert, after
having said that "it is a rash man who asks me to hum", hummed to him the
Cornish song he'd heard his boat crew sing (something close to "Green Grow
the Rushes, Ho"), and Sullivan, duly inspired, went off and subsequently
composed the music. But Sullivan was definitely the composer of the song.

None of which relates to the correct title of the show. I wouldn't bother
the list with this, but it's Labor Day weekend and things are very slow.

All the best, Peter! Your attention to detail is, in fact, much
appreciated.
