1926 was certainly a good year for Bordeaux, but I don't believe it was particularly special for Champagne.

It's possible the line may have been a tip of the hat to Bertrand de Vogue who joined Veuve Clicquot that year and who was arrested by the Nazis during WW2 for being a member of the resistance (as were senior members of several other champagne houses).
