You probably already ruled this out, but Isaac Bashevis Singer wrote an
article called "The Golem is a Myth for Our Time" which was published in
The New York Times 12 August, 1984, 2;1. [87]. The article later served
as the Foreward to "Golem! Danger, Deliverance, and Art" By Emily Bilski.
New York: Jewish Museum, 1988. 6-9.
Don't know if warfare or ballistic missiles is mentioned.
