[PW] Redux: talking through one's hat

Hope I'm not mistaking that this wasn't already mentioned in conjunction with this query, but in perusing our new edition of Brewer's Dictionary of Phrase & Fable I chanced to look this up and it gave the following, "the allusion is perhaps to the piety feigned by men at prayer who hold their hats before their faces so as to appear deep in reverent contemplation."
