Ah, Dennis, curb your wrath. Although several larger sauropods have
been discovered in the intervening years, even in the 1950's the
brontosaurus (now apatosaurus) was not recognized as the largest land
animal. The brachiosaurus was known to be heavier, and the diplodocus
longer. So even if the show's official answer was stupid, the
contestant's answer was still wrong.
