I checked the catalog of the New York State Court system:
http://www.courts.state.ny.us/lawlibraries/
but did not find anything--you could contact the court in New York
County to see if they have an archive:
New York County
NY County Public Access Law Library
80 Centre Street
Room 468
New York, NY
(646) 386-3715
I did find one item in the Harvard catalog concerning the Court:
New York City court records, 1760-1797 : genealogical data from the
court of quarter sessions / abstracted and with an introduction by
Kenneth Scott.
>From the title, I don't think it will contain the information you're
looking for, but one of the subject headings is this:
New York (State). Court of General Sessions (New York County) --
Archives.
Which leads me to believe that there are archives for the court; I just
could not find reference to an archive from the web site cited above.
Hope this is helpful

Subject: [PW] Diary of Solomon Smithers?
Dear PW list:
One of our students is looking for:
(1) the Diary of Solomon Smithers, referenced in the article entitled
"How a Jury of Matrons Found a Verdict," in the 1 June 1902 edition of
the New York Times at SM9, or
(2) any court records out of the Court of General Sessions from March
of 1789, specifically the case of John Meeker.
Can anyone here tell me who might have access to these materials? We
have found no record of the Smithers Diary in the NYPublic Catalog, and
I've found nothing on WorldCat or Google Scholar, either. I wrote to
the New York State Library with these questions a while back, but they
have not yet replied.
Does anyone here have any leads? If this diary is in an archive, can
anyone suggest where I might look to find it? (I know so little about
archives, I'm afraid.)
TIA,
dkp
