Sherrill S. Shelton, at 6 months, appears on the 1920 census of Taloka
township, Haskell County, Oklahoma (page 279, SD 2, ED 37, Sheet 11A) as
the son of schoolteacher George T. Shelton, 26, (born Arkansas) and Rosa
L. Shelton, 24, (born Oklahoma), with an older sister, Georgia L. Shelton,
3, who was also in the orphanage with Sherrill in 1930.
George appears at 17 in the household of William Shelton, 52, and Tabitha
Shelton, 57, in the 1910 Census of San Bois, Haskell County, Oklahoma (page
208, SD 4, ED 94, Sheet 9A), with a sister Flossie Shelton, 14. William
was born in Arkansas, and Tabitha in Illinois, which matches the
information from the 1920 census for George's parents.
In the 1900 census George appears in Township 10, Choctaw Nation, Indian
Territory (page 120 A, SD 78, ED 75, Sheet 25): William S Shelton 42 (born
Feb 1858 in Arkansas), Cynthia T Shelton 46 (born Aug 1853 in
Illinois), Maggie Shelton 17 (born Oct 1882), Binnie/Bernie Shelton 14
(born June 1885), Willie Shelton 12 (born Sept 1887), George Shelton 7
(born Mar 1893), Flosie Shelton 4 (born April 1896). All children born in
Arkansas except Flosie, who was born in Indian Territory.
