Bob,
I checked Brill's New Pauly. It refers to two sisters of Julius Caesar
named Julia. Of the elder it says that little is known about her. But then
it lists another Julia who was the daughter of Augustus and Scribonia. Born
in 39 BCE; married her cousin M. Claudius Marcellus in 25 BCE. This must be
the person you want; but there is no reference to her being called "the
elder". No marriage date here, but the bibliography may be of some help:
1) U. Hahn. Die Frauen des rom. Kaiserhauses, 1994, 106ff.
2) P. Sattler. Studien aus dem Gebiet der Alten Geschichte, 1962, 1ff.
3) J. Linderski, in Zeitschrift fuer Papyrologie und Epigraphik 72, 1988,
181 ff . Also: Linderski. Roman Questions, 1995, 375ff, 663ff
4) R.A. Bauman, Women and Politics in Ancient Rome, 1992, 99ff
5) R. Syme, The Augustan Aristocracy, 1986, 90ff
Hope this is of some help.
