Reading over some of the comments at amazon, one person said it was "a
fluffier version of The Secret Life of Bees," if that's any help. Some of
the comments made me think of Alexander McCall Smith's No. 1 Ladies
Dectective series which aren't really mysteries but slow, sweet, gentle
tales with unusual characters. Some of the Miss Julia books might do--
they're by Ann Ross-- or the Miss Read books.
Hope she finds something she likes!
