That's quite funny, actually.

In the '60s I was on a panel discussion at a conference in Munich. In my 
"position paper" I had used the verb "to parse". The chair of the panel, 
from Switzerland, did not know the word, and a Dutchman, passing by, 
said "Oh, in German that is 'aufzuspalten'.".

When I got home, I looked up "aufzuspalten" in my Cassell's, and 
discovered that the English translation given was "espalier".

Yes, it makes some kind of sense, but it was amusing at the time.
