While not raised exactly Southern Baptist, I can attest to the 
"realness" of the question.
This was certainly something I heard repeated in church/sunday school 
settings as a child:

A: "Drinking is a sin."
B: "But the Bible says Jesus and the Apostles drank wine."
A: "Well yes, but it wasn't _really_ wine.  It was more like grape juice."
