<< After all that interest in the mysterious Leonide Keating, I thought I
would share what I have transcribed so far...>>
After navigating several (Calif) state agencies, I have finally acquired
Leonide L. Keating's Death Certificate.
As mentioned before, he died in Los Angeles on Sept 11, 1945. His name on
the certificate is given as "Leonide Leonidas Keatinghe."
The data must have been supplied by a neighbor or casual friend, since
there are no names given for his mother OR father. The Cert says that he was born
in Florence, Italy, but that is unlikely.
His occupation was given as "Doctor of Philosophy" (Self). This would seem
to match his book, "Man in the Mystic Universe."
His (deceased) spouse's name is listed as 'Dolly,' but his wife had been
named "Kathryn,' so that may just be a nickname for her.
Why Keating would also use "Keatinghe" is a small mystery, since he was
supposedly from England. A helpful librarian in Niles, Michigan found the
original (complete) 1892 marriage record, and his parents were listed as Reginald
Keating and Agnes Robling. All of his Censuses show him born in 1855, but his D-C
has 1868, though with the correct month (Oct).
He was cremated in 1945, and according to Forest Lawn Mortuary (Glendale),
his ashes are now stored in a "utility area" and not available for visitation.
Using the Illinois data base of Deaths, I have found a 'Kathryn Keatinge'
dying there in Jan 1924, and have written for her D-C.
Thanks again to all for various hints and clues... he does seem to be the
first recorded physical fitness guru (1904). Depending on which dates are
correct for him, he may well have lived to be 90.
