Peter:

May one ask why a gardener or groundskeeper might wish to kill worms, and
which kinds of worms he/she might wish to kill?  Aren't earthworms
essential to the health of a lawn?

I'm not Peter, but I do know:

People who maintain golf courses, in particular, want to kill the worms in
the greens. Their castings mess the place up.

For the rest of us, earthworms are very beneficial, and the castings are
full of soil nutrients; sort of a concentrated fertilizer.
