I struck out too after checking the internet and all available art databases
I have through my library cards. However, you might want to post your
question on the findartinfo forum- it looks like a lot of knowledgeable
people are available to help. Good question!

PS- thanks to the person that found that great resource- I added it to my
list!

I Googled "artist initials" and came up with www.findartinfo.com, which has
a monogram search. There were a few results for HMA: the best bet for date
looked like Henry Meynell Rheam but unfortunately at point my computer
started refusing to load any page with a image on it so I couldn't check
further.

  Anyone? [waves baton hopefully]

  Hi all,

I had this request from my patron:

"Would you happen to know of any artist (or school of art) who might have
painted in 1898 and used the initials HMA to sign his work? The painting is
of 2 angels flying. 3 crosses on a hill are barely visible in the
background.

I cannot seem to find anything on the Internet."

I poked around a little bit on the Internet myself, but I have no background
in art and really have no clue where to start. Any help would be
appreciated. TIA!

Jocelyn
