Regardless of which site or program you use to download a flash video, it must have the .flv extension. IAt some download formats like at http://javimoya.com/blog/youtube_en.php an online down-loader that will do a large list of Flash video sites, the extension is automatically added to some site downloads, but on other sites like youtube, you may have to add the extension.
.flv may not play for you as it requires a special player. You can get a free cross platform (Mac and PC) standalone Flash Video (flv) player at:
http://www.wimpyplayer.com/products/wimpy_standalone_flv_player.html
Just a note. A 2-3 minute Flash video download runs between a 6-8 MB size.

I am pasting in below a message I received from a friend, who found how to save YouTube videos at PC World. I used it once and it actually worked. Good luck with it.

With the recent interest in ways of saving YouTube videos, the following was in a recent newsletter from PCWorld:
Every so often I'll bump into a YouTube video I like and want to view
again. Instead of having to head back to my browser to view it, I use
TubeMe and save it to my computer.
Just insert one or more links to the YouTube videos you want to save
into TubeMe and the program saves the files to your hard drive.
There's no installation, and the program's free. Just download TubeMe
onto your desktop (or into a folder) and double-click on the program's
icon when you want to use it. Grab a copy from the PC World Downloads
site:

[ Note - the author's site is http://ashimonovits.brinkster.net/TubeMe.html ]
Ah, but if you're a Firefox user, you're probably saying, What about
me? You can use TubeMe, too, or, if you'd like something slicker, try
VideoDownloader. It's a Firefox extension that lets you download from
over 60 video sites. Get it here:

I second this recommendation!
Believe it or not, I got this from my Mom, who is turning 95,
and got some serious thank you notes from my friends.
Meanwhile, does anyone know how to download a permanent copy?
Thanks!!!!!!!
