Another, more specific usage of the term "critical edition" is used
in many fields to describe editions which indicate primarily
variations in the text.
That is, rather than containing commentary on, say, the "meaning" of the text,
per se, a "critical edition" in this sense lists variant readings available
from diverse sources, often with some indication of more likely
original reading. For example, this is the typical mean of a "critical
edition" of, say, a Greek New Testament.
