[PW] ? Italian phrase used by publishers: "condotta sul testo"

The following Italian phrase, “condotta sul testo” seems to be used to say
that a translation is “based upon a text” although that does not seem to
be a very literal translation. Could someone help me out here? How would the
following phrase translate?

 

                “Edizione italiana condotta sul testo critico edito da. . .
“
