[PW] Nut-free substitute for ground almonds in Lebkuchen recipe

My Lebkuchen recipe ("traditional Christmas honey cakes from the Black Forest region of Germany") is from the Betty Crocker Cookie Book (now reprinted).  The recipe asks for "chopped nuts", but does not specify what kind.  They could probably be eliminated.  When I made them, I probably used walnuts (more likely to have on hand).  Very tasty and a county-fair-ribbon winner.  No almonds, ground or chopped, no extract.  It does call for citron.
