Been having e-mail problems all week (thank you, Comcast) so in case 
this didn't get to the list:

And while I was at the Massachusetts Archives, I confirmed that 
Ethel's mother, Mary Elizabeth (Mahoney), came from County Cork 
Ireland.  Her mum was Catherine and her dad was Patrick Mahoney.  I 
did find a Patrick and Catherine Mahoney on the British/Irish census 
of 1871, but the listing I found did not have our Mary 
Elizabeth.  She seems to have left Ireland around that time, since 
the records from the Archives show that she married at age 19, to 
Edgar Eugene Reed, in Newburyport MA on 2 December 1872.  And Ethel 
was born, as mentioned earlier, on 13 March 1874.  Edgar Eugene Reed 
died in Newburyport on 6 August 1892.  I have had absolutely no luck 
tracking down a date of death for Mary, and you all know I am having 
no luck tracking down Ethel after 1901.  I still get the impression 
that Ethel remained in England-- I wonder if Mary went back to 
Ireland after her husband died... can't prove that one either... sigh...
