The Wilson Name file and BGMI are in error.  I went to the 
Massachusetts Archives earlier today, and as I had thought, 1874 is 
correct-- according to volume 251, p. 295 of the (Newburyport  MA) 
Birth registry; it lists Ethel May Reed as born there on  March 13, 
1874. (The top of the page says 1874 spelled out in long-hand, so 
it's not a typo...)  Parents were Edgar Eugene Reed and Mary 
Elizabeth (Mahoney) Reed.
