A few problems your student will have determining who has used this piece:
- not every newspaper client who runs the piece will be found in
Lexis-Nexis, FPInfomart, or other databases. This is especially true of
smaller and non-American dailies.
- many newspapers do not include any wire or syndication material in the
articles they file with L-N, but only the material that originates with
them. This is partly due to the Tasini decision, but also a desire not to
duplicate material.
- being a client of the NYTimes News service or Syndicate doesn't
automatically mean you will run the article, only that you have the right to
do so.
- searching on the byline and/or key phrases from the article may bring it
up, but any newspaper that runs the piece may also edit these out.
