I am at the Association of College and University Housing Officers International (ACUHO-I). We have a small collection at our central office; mostly association materials but items of interest to those in the profession. Very few of our members want to see the collection items in person (much of my reference is through e-mailing articles, presentations, statistics and other items) but occasionally they want to see a report in its entirety and it is easier to send it rather than scanning it. I keep a record of who has what in my Outlook account, and what the due date is. (It's a 4 week loan, though I might tack on some extra days if, say, the Christmas holiday falls in that period.) Our cataloging system has the capacity to track loans, but we have not equipped it to do so, because there is so little demand.

Dear Colleagues,
I was wondering if any of you have special collections, or other
non-circulating collections, from which staff are allowed to borrow, and, if
so, what parameters you set up for use of the material, etc. This has been
an on-going question here and I¡Çd like to see what other libraries may be
doing. Any help or suggestions would be appreciated.
Thanks. - -Jeff

"I have sometimes imagined a library, i.e. a collection of the works of true
poets, philosophers, naturalists, etc., deposited not in a brick and marble
edifice in a crowded and dusty city. . . but rather far away in the depths
of the primitive forest. . ."
