[PW] ? "What Lies Behind Us" (Quotation Query #639)

The quotation "What lies behind us, and what lies before us are tiny 
matters compared to what lies within us" is frequently attributed to 
Emerson, but I don't think it was said by Emerson.  Can anyone shed any 
light on its true provenance?
