It looks like an annex is indeed an accompanying document that stores
related information, and it can include appendixes, such as in this
free trade agreement:

Annexes also seem to be used frequently in documents from the WTO and
other international organizations, as well as the US PTO. They're
likely to contain technical info, as here:

I hope her instructor gave her some idea of what her annex should include.
