I wondered whether anyone would take a shot across the bows of
"idoneous". I learned the word as a teenager -- it's in an annotation to
the Sherlock Holmes story "The Adventure of the Mazarin Stone" in the
old Baring-Gould version; but I have never, ever seen it again, so I
feel a sort of obligation to keep it going. I trot out such words on the
List from time to time because in this sheltered environment I like to
think that people know I'm just goofing around and having a little fun.
If I do the same thing in real life, people throw heavy objects at me.
