Jeffrey -- I see you're in a public library. Do you by chance have 
access to PsycINFO? I would try that if you do. I did a quick search on 
it using the phrase "girls' classroom participation" and got 41 hits 
(for the past 25 years). Here's one of the results that might help your 
patron:

I don't know if this article will tie into the attractiveness question, 
but if it doesn't, maybe it references one that does.
