Hi
After all that interest in the mysterious Leonide Keating, I thought I
would share what I have transcribed so far from his only known cylinder recording,
ca
"It is my voice you hear and I shall expect the same obedience as though I
were face to face with you. Now attention! Take position as in Chart One.
Place the weight of the body on the balls of the feet in bending forward at the
hip so that the spine is relieved of strain. Now incorporate the word "rigid"
into your mind and compel your memory to retain it..."
And so it goes - the heights, or depths, of 19th century self improvement.
He may have been born in 1855 (in England?)...His own doctors had told him he
would never walk again, after a fall from a horse, and I think he got carried
away with his achievement.
If anyone has any contacts at the Los Angeles County Recorder's Office -
they may offer a walk-in service for the Death Certificate (I'm in Brooklyn,
NY). He died in LA County on Sept 11, 1945, presumably under the name of 'Leonide
Leonidas Keatinghe." Glad to cover any local expenses. I could order it later
on, but that will be after the article must be finished. It's my own fault...
Allen
